Acne
Acne can be due simply to a diet high in fat, sugar and chocolate. Nutrition, hormone imbalances, and skin hygiene has to be considered. Estrogen improves acne where as progesterone and testosterones make it worse. Homeopathic to balance the hormones may be necessary. Zinc and B12 deficiency causes acne.
Home Tips
~Don’t scrub face harshly
~Avoid overheating and sweating during exercise and avoid saunas.
~Don’t squeeze- it will cause a scar. Disinfect a needle, pierce and gently squeeze with cotton balls (no nails) if you must.
~No chocolate or sugars before your menstrual periods.
~Drink 10 glasses of water a day.
~Wash hands and avoid touching the face.

ADD/ADHD, Learning and Behaviour
Has your child had a complete check with a Chiropractor?  Due to the range of causes that can cause or predispose to ADD/ADHD each case is examined thoroughly and treated individually. Side effects of Ritalin include; weight loss, sleep disturbances, rapid heartbeat, chest pain, joint pain, rash, cramps, depression, seizures and psychosis.
(a) A CHIROPRACTIC check involves the cranial system (head and jaw) the spine and pelvis. An example is the jamming of the two cranial bones (which sit on top of the head) can diminish the blood supply (corpus colosum), which supplies the right and left hemispheres. An extremely gently correction will improve schoolwork, co-ordination, concentration and hence self-confidence!
(a) Allergies to foods, chemicals, plants, molds, fungi, perfumes and the environment are assessed and homeopathic are used to desensitize the overactive immune system. Note infants with low levels of good bacteria in the gut have a higher incidence of allergies (Int Arch Allergy Immunol 125,2001).
(b) Gut check-candida or yeast overgrowth (due to antibiotic use and sugars) causes fatigue. Parasites and worms, toxins in medications and immunizations, chemicals and additives can all cause pinholes in the gut called leaky gut . The gut must therefore be repaired using supplements and herbs.
(c) Neurotransmitters (chemicals) of the brain are checked with APPLIED KINESIOLOGY, and treated homeopathically.
(d) Essential Fatty Acid deficiency has been linked to ADD/ADHD.
(e) Heavy Metal toxicity (amalgam fillings, cadmium, copper, lead or aluminium has mum got heavy metals?..they cross the placenta and the blood brain barrier!)
(f) Thyroid deficiency (may have normal blood tests and be sub clinical) Signs are fatigue, low appetite, cold, down and constipation. Nutrients that help are iodine found in sea kelp and seafood, zinc and B vitamins.
(g) Iron Deficiency Anemia. Just as it causes lethargy in adults it also causes a decrease in cognitive skills in kids.
(h) Zinc deficiency has been shown in hyperactive kids. Low zinc is proportional to high copper; do you have copper pipes at home?
(i) Undiagnosed deafness or poor eyesight.
(j) Sleep disorders.
PRIMITIVE REFLEXES are needed for the survival in the womb. As the brain matures these are integrated in a specific sequence and no longer exists after 6 months of life. If they are retained or integrated out of sequence it can often affect behaviour, emotions, learning, gross and fine movement. Structural corrections of the craniosacral system (head and pelvis) can help to remove these retained reflexes. This is a unique treatment system, which is exclusive to some Chiropractors. This process”addresses the hardware” as well as any other spinal mis-alignments found on examination, which can irritate the nervous system. The “software” is then considered (see list above).
Home Tips
~Encourage your child to eat oily deep sea fish (tuna and salmon) , nuts and seeds filled with omega 3 fatty acids.
~Avoid simple carbohydrates and sugars, introduce more protein for sustained energy (meats, fish, nuts, beans and dairy).
~Watch the red and green food colouring, msg, corn syrup and other additives.
~American Ginseng (96mg) and Gingko Biloba (29mg) has helped 44-74% of ADHD kids.
~Monitor behaviour after each meal…write it down…what is you child allergic to.
~Encourage aerobic exercise no less than 2 hours before bedtime.
~Probiotics promote good bacteria, great for allergies.
~call us for a Chiropractic and Kinesiologist appointment today.

Addictions
A Molecular Psychiatric Journal study showed after some weeks of Chiropractic adjustments anxiety and depression scored lower than the control group. They also continued to abstain from their addictions 4 months later (100% of the group).
Alcoholism
Prolonged heavy drinking can lead to liver, kidney, gastrointestinal, pancreatic and brain dysfunction. The drinker is more prone to cancer, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), diabetes, ulcers and nutritional deficiencies. Sexual desire and function decreases due to an increase in a liver enzyme which breaks down testosterone.
Alcoholism has been shown to be both psychological and physiological. NEURO-EMOTIONAL TECHNIQUES, with or without the aid of a counselor/drug and alcohol psychologist can address the emotional basis of addictions. Physiologically dopamine stimulates humans to do what is best for their survival and serotonin tells the brain to stop as the level of wellbeing is met promptly. Alcoholics have been found to have low levels of both these neurotransmitters in the brain. It is tested using KINESIOLOGY and treated with homeopathics.
A DETOX of 6 weeks is ideal.
Home Tips
~ Decrease sugars and simple carbohydrates, they will just make you want more, remember alcohol is a sugar.
~ Take a multivitamin with strong Vit B component. Alcohol depletes Vit B and is of no nutritional value ie. empty calories.
~ Take 1grm of L-glutamine a day between meals especially when weaning off or abstaining. It decreases cravings and anxiety.
~ Withdrawal will take a week then do a 6 week detox, consult the Chiropractor.
~ Do a kidney detox, use beetroot, ginger, celery and carrot juicing.
~ Take lemon juice in warm water first thing in the morning .It helps bring the system back to an ALKALINE state. Alcohol makes the system very ACIDIC which makes the system even more toxic. It is also helpful for the liver.
~ Silymarin and Silybum (St. Marys Thistle) regenetrates the liver. This is essential at the level of enlarged fatty liver or cirrhosis.

Allergies
An allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a particular substance found in our diets or the environment. Symptoms are indigestion, dark circles puffiness under eyes, muscle cramps and headaches. Your diet will be assessed in detail (Acidity/alkaline, blood type, common allergens in food pinpointed using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY). If allergies are found you will
an be given homeopathics to desensitize you . Your gut may be dysfunctional causing pinholes in the intestines resulting in ‘leaky gut syndrome’. Food then can enter outside the gut causing a immune response as it is perceived as foreign (it shouldn t be there !) therefore causing allergic reactions. This can be caused by candida , parasites or toxins ( found in medications, immunisations, our foods, household chemicals and the environment). Some people are allergic to proteins and a digestive enzyme will help the natural digestive process. Even sinus and sniffles can be cured by fixing the gut as 60-80% of the immune system lies in the gut. Whey protein given to babies instead of dairy can decrease the severity and number of asthma and eczema attacks. Candida in the mothers gut can pass through to the babies gut via breastfeeding, probiotics help.Clinical studies show infants with low levels of good bacteria in the gut have a higher incidence of allergies Int Arch Allergy Immunol 125, 112-119, 2001. Upper neck and cranial (bones of the face and skull) mis-alignments aggravate allergies no end!
Home Tips
~Document how you feel after foods.
~Take probiotics.
Andropause
This is the male menopause or manopause! Symptoms include sleep disorders, decreased energy, moody, urinary problems, skin and hair changes and decreased sexual desire and ability. How are your hormones? APPLIED KINESIOLOGY and CHIROPRACTIC can help.
Appetite Suppression
A generally poor appetite can be due to hormonal dysfunction, especially the thyroid and pituitary gland. If you are under a great deal of stress this can either suppress or stimulate the appetite. Certain medications such as amphetamines, antibiotics, codeine and morphine are appetite suppressants. A full liver, kidney and gut check, as well as hormone testing is performed with the use of APPLIED KINESIOLOGY. Zinc deficiency reduces sense of smell…and your appetite! Diet will be analysed.
Home Tips
~ Eat earlier in the day when you have more energy.
~ Exercise can trigger appetite.
~ Eat more small meals.
~ Juice vegs.
~ Eat foods that look and smell good to you.
~ Address stress and depression, consider NEURO EMOTIONAL TECHNIQUE.
~ Eat in a quiet calm environment.
~ Keep up protein intake…even a glass of soy milk.
~ Snack on avocado, banana, cheese, nuts and seeds.
~ Ginger tea stimulates the appetite.
~ Stop smoking.
~ Avoid excessive alcohol.
~ Do not drink water before or after meals
~ Take a multivitamin or multivitamin liquid for kids .

Excessive
This can be due to a growth spurt, hyperthyroidism, hyperadrenalism, diabetes, depression, certain medications; antihistamines or steroids, withdrawal from drugs and parasites or worms. A full check with a Chiropractor will check all of the above.
Home Tips
~ If you have been diagnosed with sugar metabolism problems increase protein, reduce sugars and simple carbohydrates (discuss with Chiropractor).
~ Drink fluids before a meal.
~ Hot peppers increase metabolism and suppress appetite.
~ Chew slowly without distractions.
~ Have breakfast.
~ Dehydration stimulates appetite.

Arthritis
Arthritis is a musculoskeletal disorder that affects up to 5 million Australians. As a Chiropractor, I can help with the limited joint mobility, pain management and release nerve pressure. Techniques are individually modified and x-rays may be necessary. Specific advice will be given on exercise, nutrition and relaxation. Although there is not a cure yet arthritis can be managed successfully.

OSTEOARTHRITIS
Suffers of OA feel pain, stiffness, creaking of the joints, deformities and swelling. It is a progressive disease which mostly affects weightbearing joints. The cartilage of the joints literally wear and tear.Previous injuries can poredispose to OA.

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
Symptoms include pain, morning stiffness, deformities, restrictions, joint swelling, fatigue, low grade fever and possible weight loss.Traditional medicinal treatments includes NSAIDS which can cause stomach ulcers.

Asbestosis
Asbestosis causes scarring of the lining of the lungs which hinders the exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide. It can manifest 10-20 yrs after exposure and produces a productive and persistant cough. People who suffer from asbestosis have a 5x greater chance of getting lung cancer but a 55x greater chance if they also smoke!

Athletes
Athletes should have a high protein diet 2 hrs before a race and carbs just before, during and after. Four glasses of water should be consumed 2 hrs prior and every 15 mins during athletic activity. Use a sports drink if exercising for more than I hr or a mixture of I teaspoon of organic sea salt per litre of water. If you feel lightheaded take glucose (the fuel for the brain). An athletes diet should consist of 60:20:20 ratio of carbs, protein and fat.
Spinal function is absolutely necessary for optimal performance. If a nerve to a specific muscle is blocked due to pinching or irritation at the spinal level that muscle WILL be weak. All muscles are examined using KINESIOLOGY and treated specifically to fix and strengthen them. Deficiencies in essential fatty acids can cause muscle fatigue much more rapidly. CoQ10 enzyme can help combat fatigue, if indicated. Glucosamine can protect cartilage. Note creatine can increase muscle cramps, kidney and heart stress. Avoid ACID forming foods they cause you to bloat and therefore weaken your abdominals and quad muscles.
To avoid lactic acid build up warm up and down doing the same exercise you are training in. Stretching will increase your range of movement but not prevent injuries, do a light warm up. Never bounce when stretching.

Overtraining
The longer you overtrain the more rest you will need, say 5 weeks. You will be deficient in amino acids, vit Bs and zinc. You will also be more prone to colds, flu and sinus. To check if you are indeed overtraining lay down after training for 15mins, take pulse beats per min (P1), stand up, take pulse (P2). Calculate P1 minus P2, if the difference is more than 20 seconds you are overtraining and have not recovered from yesterday’s efforts. Adjust your program and always give yourself 24 hrs break between sessions.

Back Pain
Back problems are caused by so many different problems, therefore it is essential to diagnose and treat the appropriate cause/s. Pain can be transmitted or REFFERED from other areas. It is incredibly important to treat back pain as soon as possible, the longer you leave it, the longer it will take to treat. Also, compensations will occur in other parts of the body, especially the neck! Don’t leave it, it can deteriorate to a very unhealthy point. A SUBLUXATION in the back can interfere with nerves causing pain, pins and needles and weakness in the leg and affect your organs (mainly reproductive, kidney and bowel). Doctors of Chiropractic are the best qualified and experienced doctors of ‘back pain’. Exercises and advice on posture, lifting and nutrition is also addressed.

Babies and Children
A mother will stop at nothing to ensure her babies health during pregnancy. After the birth this continues. A baby can be checked for SUBLUXATIONS immediately after birth but it is a good idea to wait 6 weeks so the baby has had a chance to grow and heal. A baby’s spine can become subluxated during the birth, especially with forceps, vacuum extraction and even caesarian delivery. An unresolved subluxation can be known to persist throughout life. These contribute to many ailments such as; croup, constipation, diarrhea, colds, colic, poor posture, sleeping problems and teething pain.
Babies and kids tend to enjoy a chiropractic visit and they rarely need more than two visits initially. Maintenance care is highly recommended to ensure full health and a structural support for a growing body. I use a small instrument called an activator which is extremely gentle on babies and younger kids.

Backpacks
~Do not carry more than 10% of your body weight (unless backpacking!)
~Check out www.chiropak.com for more information

Bad Breath
There are many causes of halitosis or bad breath:
1. Low acid in the stomach causing food to rot (common).
2. Infection of the sinuses and lungs.
3. Stressed liver or kidney.
4. Sugar imbalances and Diabetes.
5. Dehydration.
6. Stress, causing a dry mouth and hence dehydration.
7. Lactose intolerance from dairy products.
8. Candida.
9. Fasting, due to the breakdown of fat and protein.

You may need to go to your dentist, are your wisdom teeth coming through or are your gums bleeding?
Home Tips
~ Brush and FLOSS your teeth twice a day.
~ Brush you tongue.
~ Eat plenty of cold climate fruits (low in natural sugars) and vegetables.
~ Have a spoonful of yogurt after garlic or onion.
~ Drink 2L water daily.
~ Detox twice a year.
~ Don’t skip meals, eat breakfast!

Bladder Control
Your bladder can weaken after childbirth, surgery, with heavy lifting, diabetes or menopause. Your bladder can also drop slightly if weak with gravity. The spinal function of the sacrum and pubic areas are assessed and the bladder can be mobilized upwards using a simple painfree technique.
Home Tips
~ Kegel exercises or pelvic floor exercises.
Stop flow of urine halfway and contract the muscles between the vagina and anus ONLY (pelvic muscles).
Do sitting or lying and contract pelvic muscles for 3 secs 15x, 3x a day. You should get results after 6 months so yes keep it up.
~ Squeeze when sneezing or coughing.

Breastfeeding
The mothers diet should ideally be relatively free of fats, simple carbohydrates and sugar. It is important for mum to be checked for candida (yeast overgrowth in the gut), as it may be passed on to the baby resulting in colic, poor digestion and
irritability. There are higher than normal levels of lactose in the breast milk and many babies are intolerant, a modification of the mothers diet may help to ease these symptoms. Avoid toxic foods and drinks. Increasing good fats or fish is essential. Babies do prefer firm pressure and definate support. Try to decrease the loud noises around you. Mothers and babies should be checked for allergies, candida and lactose intolerance using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY.

Breast Pain
Monthly breast pain is usually due to excess estrogen (homeopathics will help). Testing using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY can confirm this. Depending on the symptoms a referral to your G.P may be necessary.
Home Tips
~ Take Vit B, Vit E or Chaste tree (Vitex).
~ Cut out caffeine (max 1 every 2 days), alcohol salt and animal fats.
~ Reassess your contraceptive methods, prolonged use of the pill may cause monthly breast tenderness.
~ Increase soy products (phytoestrogens)
~ Use flaxseed oil on salads.
~ Choose organic chicken (estrogen free) and free-range eggs.

Candida
Candida is a yeast overgrowth found in the gut (tongue white coating), or vagina (thrush). Symptoms include constipation or diarrhea, bloating, flatulence and fatigue. You must take probiotics like L-acidophilus to counteract the common side effects of some medications such as antibiotics (that can kill all the good bacteria in the gut as well as the bad), the Pill, excess sugar and simple carbohydrates, diabetes and pregnancy. It is vital for the babies digestion also to clear any candida in the mum during pregnancy and after delivery if breastfeeding!
Home Tips
~ Cut out all sugars, refined carbohydrates and all breads with yeast.
~ Eat yogurt daily as a preventative.

Celiacs Disease
Celiacs occurs in the small intestine just after the stomach. It is the inability to tolerate gluten. It can interfere with the absorption of nutrients in the small intestine. The Chiropractor can check if you are breaking down the food enough in the stomach, i.e. if the stomach is lacking enough acid to digest. This is quite a common problem. Symptoms include irritability, depression, diarrhea, abdominal pains, weight loss, anemia, gas and mouth ulcers. The Chiropractor can ensure the nerves which supply the small intestines are working well and there are no SUBLUXATIONS in the mid to lower back. A fully functioning nervous system will improve function in the small intestine. Nutritional deficiencies can be assessed using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY and a detoxification diet may be essential for best results. Liver and Thyroid is also assessed.

Cholesterol
Cholesterol only comes from ANIMAL PRODUCTS. High cholesterol is reversible to a certain extent with diet and exercise. A liver DETOX may be necessary as the liver removes excess cholesterol. Certain supplements are indicated for any heart dysfunction such as Vit B and CoQ10 enzyme.
Home Tips
~ Eat fish everyday.
~ Eat only trim meats and remove skin.
~ Use skim milk or soy milk.
~ Avoid fried foods including chips, crackers.
~ Increase fibre to expel excess cholesterol, try psyllium hulls.
~ Floss teeth daily, the bacteria in the gums can go into the blood stream contributing to blood clotting.
~Exercise aerobically this is essential.
~Stop smoking as it significantly reduces the HDLs or the good fats which get rid of the LDLs (bad fats). Smoking doubles your risk of a heart attack at any cholesterol level.
~Drink only 1 glass of red wine daily.
~Address stress levels. Not being able to sleep is also an increase risk of heart disease.

Colds and Flu
A Chiropractic treatment may strengthen your immune system! You may need nutrients. You are only infectious the first two days of your cold. To prevent colds continue to wash your hands with antibacterial soap throughout the day during the peak seasons of winter and spring. Avoid touching eyes or nose if in contact with someone suffering the cold or flu. Eat lemon juice and garlic daily.
Home Tips
~Take time out and sleep. You will get over it in half the time.
~Warm water, crushed garlic, ginger and lemon juice at the first signs of a cold.
~Eat plenty of warming vegie soups.

Constipation
Constipation is an extremely common problem that can be transient or chronic.
A thorough examination of the spine and digestive system with the Chiropractor is necessary. The nerves that supply the large intestine come from the upper lumbars (low back) and the upper cervicals (neck). Any pinching due to a vertebra being misaligned or SUBLUXATED will decrease peristalsis (the normal contraction of the colon). Any gut dysfunction has to be treated with nutritional supplements. You may need to do a liver and colon detox. Your diet will be completely evaluated. Are your stomach acids digesting your food properly? Is the liver producing enough bile to lubricate the colon? There are numerous causes to constipation. Medical causes include hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid), diabetes, long colon, MS, tumours, and depression and certain prescription drugs (anti-convulsants, anti-psychotics, anti- depressants, anti-spasmotics) and iron supplements. Colonic irrigation is not a long-term remedy. Constipation in children is often due to a dairy intolerance (see your Chiropractor).
Home Tips
~ Don’t ignore the urge! It is your top priority.
~ Take psyllium hulls, prunes, bran, kidney beans, cabbage.
~ Drink 2L water daily.
~ Fresh lemon juice in warm water on rising.
~ Eat breakfast and small regular meals.
~ Stop chocolate, refined carbs and sugars and any foods found to cause allergies.
~ Exercise and relax, take an Epsom salts bath.
~ SQUAT legs up on toilet seat or small stools, take your time.
~ Do not take senna it will weaken the bowels natural contractions.
~ Prevent colon cancer- increase fibre, vit E, folic acid and decrease fats, refined carbohydrates and sugar.

Dermatitis
A full gut check and identification of allergies is necessary. The immune system has to be balanced.
Home Tips
~ Carrot juice daily.
~ Oily Fish (tuna, salmon, sardines, mackerel) 3 times a week, this increases essential fatty acids and lubricates the skin.
~ Sea Kelp has iodine which heals tissue.
~ Vit A,Bs, C and E and Zinc help.
~ Avoid milk, nuts, chocolate and eggs.

Detoxification
Signs of toxicity are; being overweight, insomnia, asthma, tension, menstrual problems, constipation, allergies, coated tongue, nausea, bloating, poor memory, poor skin and eyes, fatigue, headaches, skin discolouration, depression, acne, abnormal body odour, poor digestion and bad breath.
When detoxing you need to ensure transit time is fast in the bowel. Eat corn see how long it takes to exit. It should be 16-24hrs, unfortunately for most of us it is up to 92 hrs.The bowel must function properly and be free of candida or parasites before detoxing, or else you may be recycling the toxins.
Herbal teas which aid detoxification are; ginger, licorice, fennel and dandeloin.
Antioxidants found in colouful fruit and vegies are essential to avoid any harmful effects of detoxification. Juice beetroot, ginger and carrot.
Brush your skin with a dry brush to remove dead skin cells and increase lymphatic flow, always brush towards the heart. Then lie in and epsom salts bath for 15-20 mins, then rub skin again gently. If the water turns murky you are getting rid of toxins!
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO CHECK WITH THE CHIROPRACTOR AND KINESIOLOGIST BEFORE EMBARKING ON A DETOX, YOU MAY CAUSE MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

Diabetes
Walking half an hour (2.6 km) everyday will decrease blood sugar levels by 2.2mmol/L. Scan J Prim Healthcare 19, (2001) 12.
The World Health Organisation predicts the incidence of diabetes will double in 10 years. Diabetes increases the risk of cardivascular disease, kidney failure, blindness, and peripheral neuropathy.
High sugar or simple carbohyrates (or high G.I- Glycemic index) produces high insulin which promotes carbohydrate usage or oxidation instead of fat usage or oxidation. This encourages fat storage. Diabetes is the body’s inability to produce insulin causing high blood sugar. Lack of fibre also contributes to diabetes.
Advantages of low G.I foods includes prevention of diabetes and heart disease, cravings for sugars decrease and energy increases.
Examples of high G.I foods; white and wholemeal breads, French bread, pretzels, rice cakes, pastas, white rice, dried fruits, most processed breakfast cereals, potatoes, broadbeans, sweets, cakes, tropical fruits, beers, liqueurs.
Moderate G.I ; sourdough, rye, muesli, ice-cream, chocolate, corn.
Low G.I foods; oats, grainy bread such as soy and linseed, pumpernickel bread, brown and basmati rice, all bran, milk, yogurt, dove chocolate, cold climate fruits. lentils and beans, red wine.
NOTE: these are all carbohydrates.

Diet Tips
~ Best to have 5 small meals daily.
~ Eat a larger meal at lunch and have a light dinner.
~ Wash fruit and vegies in water and vinegar to kill any parasites or worms.
~ Have fruit and vegies raw if possible.
~ Best cooking methods; steam, poach and stir-fry lightly.
~ Sit down at the table, turn the TV off and concentrate on every mouthful, savour the taste and chew lots!
~ Try not to eat when in a hurry, stressed, on the go, watching TV or socialising and chatting.
~ Stop after you have finished your plate and wait 10 minutes before you reach for seconds, you will feel fuller and shouldn’t want any more.
~ Have carbohydrates in the morning and lunch so you can burn it off easily.
~ Have deep sea fish 2,3x per week, red meats and desserts once a week only.

Exercise
Time and time again exercise has been shown to be incredibly positive for your health.
You should avoid moderate to heavy exercise if you have heart failure, myocardial infarction, angina, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, uncontrolled hypertension, severe epilepsy or any acute illness.

INJURY
Always RICE
R-Rest
I-Ice10 mins on, 10 mins off the affected area 3 times
C-Compression
E-Elevation

PREVENTION OF INJURY
Stretching will increase your range of motion but not prevent injury. Warm up with whatever exercises you are doing and warm down with it. If you are a little unfit and you are just starting off or if you have done a vigorous workout and are afraid you may be sore the next day, go for a 20 min. walk a few hours after the exercise.
To prevent Anterior Cruciate Ligament tears balance on the balls of your feet with your hips and knees flexed.

EXERCISE AND KIDS
Probably the biggest contributor to obesity in kids is lack of exercise. Once they find an exercise or sport they love they have to be encouraged wholeheartedly to pursue it. The whole family can allocate time for exercise.
Kids are prone to injuries due to many factors. These include anatomical misalignment and subluxations, not enough rest and warm up warm down techniques, inadequate footwear or equipment, incorrect techniques, or even adult and peer pressure. Your kids aren’t necessarily safe with full safety gear on as they tend to take more risks which can end in injury.

FOOD
2hrs before eat low G.I foods(see Diabetes section) and protein.
During a big event or strenuous exercise, drink 1/2 a litre of water every hour and eat jelly beans.
After the event eat high G.I foods within the next 2 hours.

Fertility
Trying to conceive can be a draining and stressful time for a couple. You will need information, understanding, support and confidentiality. About 15% of Australian couples fail to conceive after regular intercourse for a year. These couples are infertile, subfertile or sterile. Causes vary and can be due to the female factors, male factors or both. Chiropractic can aid in the process of conception, whether it be natural or with Assisted Reproductive Therapies (ART). My mission is to make the body as naturally healthy as possible to improve chances of conception and hence carry a healthy baby to full term.

What are the causes of infertility?
Possibly the most obvious and often neglected causes is the biological clock. The Australian Bureau of Statistics states women having babies aged 40 and over has doubled since 1986, although pregnancy rates have dropped across the board. With increase in age the number and quality of eggs decreases, miscarriage rates increase and so does the likelihood of congenital abnormalities of the baby.
Ages 19-24 you have a 30% chance of falling pregnant in any one month.
Ages 25-34 17-18% chance.
Ages 35-45 13-14% chance.
Other causes will be discussed in detail during a consultation with the Chiropractor. FOR WOMEN these include excess weight, problems with periods and your cycle, lifestyle factors, thyroid disorders, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Premature Menopause, Resistant Ovary Syndrome, Ovarian Tumour, Tumour at a higher level in the brain (pituitary), Endometriosis, Hormonal Dysfunction, Fibroids in the Uterus, Congenital defects, Pelvic Inflammatory diseases and Sexually Transmitted diseases, Tubal abnormalities and hostile mucous in the vagina. FOR MEN these include sperm dysfunction, blocked ducts, varicose veins in the scrotum, impotence and retrograde ejaculation.
What should I expect?
I will ask you a series of questions relating to you general health, diet, lifestyle and infertility. With the aid of Applied Kinesiology I can help to diagnose underlying causes to the infertility or work with ART. I will treat the spine to relieve any nerve dysfunction to the reproductive and hormonal systems. I will asses the nervous system, lymphatic system, nutritional excess or deficiency, toxicities, the cranio-sacral mechanism and hormonal system. It is necessary, if possible that your partner comes in even if you have been diagnosed with the infertility problems. The chance of conception will improve dramatically in some cases.
What will I need to bring?
-Your partner if possible.
– Any past Xrays, CT or MRI scans.
– Any tests results pertaining to infertility.
– A friend or relative if you feel more comfortable.
Home Tips
~ Wake up to a lemon squeezed in lukewarm water daily.
~ Avoid all refined carbohydrates (bread, instant rice, pasta, cakes, pasties and biscuits) and sweets 2 months prior to trying to conceive.
~ For men and women avoid alcohol and caffeine 2 months prior to trying to conceive and exercise regularly.
~ Go on a 2 week detox not later than a month prior to trying to conceive.
~ Certain foods promote fertility; fish, organic meats, eggs, cheese, wholegrains, peanuts and green leafy vegies: WASH ALL VEGS THOROUGHLY OF PESTICIDES.
~ Do you live or work in a toxic environment you may want to discuss this with the Chiropractor.
~Take Folic acid, vit B and C.
~ Do not use an electric blanket if you suspect you are pregnant, heated waterbeds are ok.
~ For the men wear loose fitting pants.
~ For men make sure you have adequate zinc, eat oysters and mushrooms.
~ Know when you are ovulating it will be around 10-20 days (usually 14 days) after the first day of you periods, you temperature will go up slightly and your vaginal mucous will be sticky and stringy.
~ Address any stress you are experiencing, take up relaxing exercises such as Chi Gung, yoga, Tai Chi or a walk along the beach.
~ Try visualization exercises you may want to start with visualizing you favourite flower growing and blooming, or a tree growing to a baby growing in the mothers womb.

A study on ovulation by WHO (World Health Organisation) showed no connection between the timing of conception and the baby’s gender.

Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia means tense and sore muscles. Amazingly spinal SUBLUXATIONS cause tight muscles which can be cured by treating the spine and peripheral joints. Magnesium deficiency contributes to sore muscles. Any toxicities must be addressed as they cause generalised sore muscles. Don’t fall for “there is nothing I can do”, as there is so much you can do to get out of the pain and stiffness. See the Chiropractor today!

A study has shown discontinuing MSG and aspartame stopped symptoms of fibromyalgia in a few months. Ann Pharmacotherp 35 (2001).

Flatulence
Flatulence are necessary and healthy for everyone everyday! To hold them in will only increase likelihood of bowel disease. Excessive and offensive flatulence should be addressed. A full spinal and gut check is necessary. You may have candida or parasites.
Home Tips
~ Avoid sugar and refined carbs. The sugar reacts with the normal bacteria in the gut and causes a huge amount of gas. This includes alcohol.
~ Don t over eat.
~ Avoid gulping food and chewing gum and smoking.
~ Avoid tight clothes.

Gallbladder
The liver produces bile which is then stored in the Gallbladder. Bile contains bile salts which breakdown fats in the food we eat. This eliminates extra cholesterol. Cholesterol can crystallize to form gallstones. Note loosing weight rapidly can cause gallstones. One third of people who have had a gastric bipass developed gallstones. Adjusting the mid thoracic region will improve the nerve supply to the gallbladder, making it more functional! On occasion a gallbladder flush is recommended. This can be dangerous so ask the practitioner if you are high risk. Homeopathics are gentler and can help symptoms. Symptoms include nausea bloating and/or pain half an hour after eating, especially after eating fatty foods.

Gout
Gout is uric acid deposited in the joints. It can also be deposited in the kidneys causing kidney stones. Homeopathics and diet changes can decrease acid levels in the body. Kidney function will be assessed.
Home Tips
~ Avoid anchovies, nuts, organ foods, oatmeal, spinach, dried beans, fish, lentils, peas, mushrooms, herrings, sardines and alcohol.
~ Drink cherry juice and eat cherries.
~ Aspirin can raise acidity.

Heartburn
Don’t depend on antacids; they contain aluminium that has been shown to be related to Alzheimer’s Disease. A SUBLUXATION between the shoulder blades directly affects the stomach. This is easily treated with a visit to the Chiropractor. You may also have a hiatal hernia, where the stomach pushes upwards through the diaphragm, causing acid flow upwards and indigestion. This can be treated without surgery if it is mild to moderate. Hiatal hernias come about from physical exertion, i.e. Lifting, excess weight, pregnancy, straining or coughing chronically, abdominal injury, or vomiting.
Home Hints
~ Avoid fatty foods, chocolate, alcohol, coffee, citrus fruits, tomatoes
~ Loose weight if you are overweight
~ Stop smoking
~ Eat 2-3 hours before you go to bed.
~ You may need to eat little, often.
~ Avoid bending over after eating.

Heart Function
Risks of Heart disease include poor diet, physical inactivity, diabetes, stress and a genetic predisposition.
Cardiovascular disease accounts for 40 % of all deaths. For high blood pressure take essential fatty acids or eat oily fish 3x week and garlic. To prevent clotting avoid fatty foods especially margarine, butter and animal fats, use olive oil. CoQ10 helps to protect the walls -discuss with the Chiropractor the best option for you. For an irregular heart beat take magnesium, potassium, calcium and taurine. To decrease stress take vit Bs and magnesium. High homocysteine levels cause heart disease, take vit Bs (especially B6 folic acid and B12) and vit E. High blood pressure is related to magnesium deficiency. Studies show acute stress increase homocysteine levels. Upper neck (cervical) adjustments have been shown to help blood pressure. A safety test is always performed first to ensure healthy neck (vertebral) arteries.
Home Tips
~ Use olive oil
~Avoid margarine, butter, animal fats, sugar and salt.
~ Eat oily fish (salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel) 3x week.
~ Drink 2L water daily.
~ Plenty of vegies.
~ 1 glass of red wine is recommended.

Hiccups
Continuous hiccups have been successfully treated with Chiropractic. It can be due to diaphragmatic irritation. The diaphragm (major breathing muscle under the ribs) is released and the neck is adjusted to relieve any irritation to the phrenic nerve which supplies the diaphragm.

Ilioe-caecal valve dysfunction
Pain in the right lower quadrant of the stomach can be due to iliocaecal valve dysfunction. It is a valve to separate the small and large intestine. It should be closed but many are found to be open or (rarely) spasmed shut also. It causes toxicity (you should never mix the large intestine contents-faeces with the small intestine- nutrients). Symptoms are bloating, constipation or diarrhea, fatigue and dark circles under your eyes. It is due to an acidic diet. Acid foods include; coffee, tea, chocolate, alcohol, excess red meat, coke, cakes, orange and tomato juice.

Immune System-weak
An imbalance in your immune system can cause allergies or autoimmune diseases, colds, flu, infections and even cancer. This can be caused by; stress, toxicities, excess estrogen, underlying viruses, bacteria or parasites in the system and certain nutritional deficiencies. Address physiological, psychological and emotional stress with the Chiropractor.
Home Tips
~ Eat protein, fat, essential fish oils, zinc (found in oysters, eggs, milk and poultry), garlic, vitamin C and shiitake mushrooms.
~ Rest and Exercise.
~ Plenty of water.

Insomnia
Sleepless nights can be due to so many things. Some causes include iron deficiency anemia, breathing disorders, kidney dysfunction, diabetes, HIV, medicines or drugs, hiatal hernias, hyperthyroidism, caffeine, poor eating habits, shift work and lack of exercise. All can be discussed with the practitioner. A extremely common problem may be a toxic liver. Adjusting the mid back (thoracic) will ensure a strong nerve supply to the liver to make it function to it’s optimal ability. A detox of the liver is important too. Bowel dysfunction needs to be examined and treated before a liver detox as you may make yourself worse, consult the Chiropractor. This is all especially relevant if you wake up in the early hours but have no trouble falling asleep. Any emotional blockages can be addressed using NET.
Home Tips
~ Increase daytime exposure to the sun.
~ Avoid bright lights at night, use candles or soft lighting.
~ Foods which help sleep include; bananas, chicken, cottage cheese, ginger, milk, pumpkin seeds, soymilk, turkey, tomatoes and seaweed. Try a banana smoothie with soymilk or milk 1 hour before bed.
~ Drink Valerian, Passionflower, or Chamomile teas.
~ Have a warm bath with lavender oil before bed.
~ Exercise (not less than 2 hours before bed).
~ Repeat your affirmations as you dose off, it may be like counting sheep!

Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IBS sufferers usually have cramping abdominal pain with constipation alternating in diarrhea. This can be accompanied by chest pain. Medical examinations show no real pathologies or problems; therefore Chiropractic and Applied Kinesiology together are great tools in finding the underlying cause. Proper diagnosis is essential as in some cases it can lead to ulceration and diverticulosis.
CAUSES
(a) Parasites in the gut cause cramping, flatulence, bloating, weight loss, itchy nose and anus and grinding of teeth. A diagnosis of parasites or worms will be treated with natural medicines to help abolish them and prevent further manifestations.
(b) Candida (yeast overgrowth in the gut) can be diagnosed and treated accordingly.
(c) Stress aggravates cramping. NET may be indicated to clear some emotions. Advice on stress management is given.
(d) You may need a digestive aid, due to lack of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
(e) The nerve control of the gut comes from the lower back. Any SUBLUXATION of the lumbar area can cause a decreased nerve supply to the colon causing decreased peristalsis (natural contractions of the colon to move feces through). This in turn causes constipation. A over stimulated nerve supply can cause increased peristalsis, causing diarrhea. Alignment of the spine is therefore crucial.
Home Tips
~ If you are constipated, see constipation.
~ Take acidophilus daily.
~ Exercise and manage Stress try yoga or tai chi.
~ Decrease fats (they increase colon contractions).
~ Decrease sugars (the normal bacteria in the gut absorbs the sugars causing huge amounts of gas).
~ Try Peppermint or Chamomile tea.
~ Eat frequent small meals.

Jaw
Otherwise known as Tempero-Mandibular Joint-TMJ. Dysfunction can easily occur in the TMJ due to trauma, a long dental appointment (with mouth open), malocclusion, braces, ligament laxity or grinding or bruxism. Do you have a ridge in your inner cheek or do you wake up with a scalloped tongue (the edge of the whole tongue is scalloped), if so you are a grinder. This can cause a lot of tension, jaw pain and headaches. Impacted wisdom teeth can also cause persistent upper neck SUBLUXATIONS. With APPLIED KINESIOLOGY you can also be checked for excessive mercury in the mouth.

Kidney problem
Symptoms of kidney stone formation can include premature ageing, lowback pain, hair loss, knee and hip problems, hearing loss and tinnitus or ringing in the ears. Kidney problems have been associated with the emotion ‘fear’, NET can help with this. It can also be associated with lung dysfunction. Keeping urine in the body too long can cause crystallisation, try not to sleep in past 7am, go to the loo! Freeing any nerve dysfunction which relates to the kidneys (mid to low back) is essential; see the Chiropractor Applied Kinesiology can check dehydration. Are you assimilating your water or are you just urinating it? Are you salt deficient?
Home Tips
~ Avoid high doses of calcium and vitamin C.
~ Drink 2L of water a day.
~ Juice beetroots, carrots, celery and ginger.
~ Eat plenty of fruit and vegies.
~ Avoid red meat and shellfish, coffee and alcohol.
~ Eat deep sea fish; salmon, tuna and mackerel.

Libido-Low
A low libido can be due to many factors. A fit SUBLUXATION free body always helps as you end up feeling good in yourself. The thyroid should be checked. Many herbs help, including tribulus terrestris, ginkgo, l-arginine, ginseng and horny goat weed.
Home Tips
~ Limit alcohol.
~ Stop smoking it affects the blood vessels.
~ Exercise and keep the weight down.
~ Work on your relationships.

Menopause
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
(a) IRREGULAR MENSTRURATION
(b) HOT FLUSHES
The hypothalamus in the brain gets mixed messages and thinks it has to cool the body off, making it sweat! You skin can be up to 4 degrees hotter than the core temperature creating an odd sensation. A specific homeopathic remedy has done wonders for many patients suffering hot flushes.
(c) VAGINAL AND BLADDER CHANGES
The thinning and dryness of the vaginal wall is due to lack of estrogen. You may therefore be more prone to thrush or candida. Placing some acidophilus powder in the vagina is harmless and effective. Wash the vagina with sorbelene not soaps and use a lubricant during sexual intercourse. If you take antihistamines for allergies they will dry up ALL your mucous membranes including the vagina. Testosterone is made in the adrenal glands. Keeping a functional adrenal gland will therefore help libido. This involves a Chiropractic check of the spine ensuring proper nerve flow, less caffeine and alcohol and plenty of B vitamins. The bladder tone weakens and the bladder drops downwards. Aligning the sacrum and pubic bones help bladder function. A specific technique is also used to literally push the bladder upwards. In its proper position optimal function can be achieved. Exercises are used (see bladder control).
(d) EMOTIONALLY….
You may experience headaches, dizziness, lack of concentration and memory, irritability, anxiousness or insomnia.
Do cognitive exercises such as cross words or memory games. I can test the adrenal glands (related to stress) and evaluate any vitamin deficiencies. NET may be indicated.
(e) OSTEOPOROSIS
The best prevention is achieving the highest peak bone mass possible as a child, so you can afford to loose some! This involves a diet high in calcium (three serves a day) and weight-bearing outdoor exercise. Later on it is beneficial to do this, 20 mins in the sun a day will ensure adequate vit D for calcium absorption. Osteoporotic fractures are very common and can be life threatening, 15% of hip fractures result in death within 6 months. Nutritional supplementation may be essential. Chiropractic treatment is modified if you are osteoporotic and is safe. Speak to the Chiropractor if you have any hesitations or questions. Avoid beverages with phosphorus as carbonated it only increases bone loss.
WHAT TO EXPECT
As Chiropractor, I will examine the spine to ensure optimal function. If you have or suspect you have osteoporosis, a gentle technique called the activator is employed to realign the spine. With APPLIED KINESIOLOGY Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can be evaluated. Hormonal state as well as nutrition and exercise are assessed. The liver metabolises hormones, therefore a sluggish liver will intensify menopausal reactions. A good liver detox may be necessary. The adrenal glands can affect estrogen, testosterone and inflammation of the body.
WHAT ABOUT HRT?
I strongly advise women to try natural therapies before HRT. There is so much we can do and HRT will probably not be needed. HRT can increase the risk of breast and uterine cancer and heart disease. If you have had blood clots, HRT can increase your risk of a reoccurrence. HRT can increase the risk of gallbladder disease and stones. It will however lower your risk of osteoporosis. If you have severe osteoporosis your individual family history and health should be assessed and HRT may be the best recommendation.

Menstruation
Many women suffer from menstrual difficulties. Every girl or woman is unique and their menstrual complaints must be assessed in detail, individually, therefore it goes beyond the scope of this website to detail all possibilities. Menstrual difficulties include irregular periods, no periods, painful periods, tender breasts, food cravings, anger and/or irritability, painful ovulation, excess bleeding, swelling, bloating and edema (water retention).Home Tips
~ Limit alcohol, coffee, tea, chocolate and sweets one week prior to your periods.
~ You may need a liver detox.
~ Limit salt, and drink plenty of water.
~ Avoid drugs and marijuana.
~ Try not to stay on the pill for more than a few months at a time.

Miscarriage
For about 20 % of women a pregnancy will end in miscarriage. Warning signs include spot bleeding without pain, heavy bleeding with pain, fluid from the vagina. See your doctor immediately. You may need a D&C following a miscarriage.
The main cause of unexplained miscarriage is low progesterone and therefore high oestrogen. The hormonal balance has tipped. This can be due to many factors, including a toxic liver and bowel which can’t eliminate excess oestrogen. Adjusting the upper lumbar area and sacrum is necessary if there is a SUBLUXATION. The nerve supply to the uterus MUST function properly. Other causes are untreated bacterial infections or pelvic inflammatory diseases, stress, mother rejecting father’s antigens and therefore the immune system rejects the fetus in the uterus, structural problems in the uterus, exposure to lead, mercury, salmonella (found in chicken and raw eggs), listeria (found in unpasteurised milk, uncooked meats, soft cheese,), toxoplasmosis (found in kitty litter), botulism (canned food-rare) . Avoid any uncooked meats and never eat raw eggs, completely defrost food, do not refreeze foods, do not cross contaminate when using utensils and chopping boards, do not use dented cans, wash hands and use clean utensils.

Multiple Sclerosis
MS is a progressive disease in where the immune system attacks the myelin sheath (which surrounds nerves- essential for nerve conduction or messages), it therefore destroys nerves. MS sufferers tend to get exacerbations and remissions. Symptoms include muscle tightness and weakness, numbness, tingling in arms legs and face, bowel and bladder problems, slurred speech, changes in vision and balance, fatigue, depression and anxiety depending on the stage of the disease. A comprehensive examination and treatment may improve the symptoms, you must not assume all aches and tingles are due to the MS and we can certainly help with that. Improving general wellbeing is essential. You may need emotional support or NET. Toxicities in the liver and bowel must be addressed as well as heavy metal detoxification (Amalgam fillings have been associated with MS, note there is no proof though). Nutritional deficiencies can be tested using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY.
Home Tips
~ Take antioxidants, vit A,C and E, eat plenty of colourful fruit and vegies.
~ Vit B12 is good for the nervous system, eat plenty of eggs, meat, chicken, shellfish and dairy.
~ Ginkgo Biloba can decrease immune activity, remember MS in the immune system attacking the myelin sheaths. Discuss with the Chiropractor as it can interact with certain medicines.
~ St. Johns wort can help with depression. Discuss with chiropractor as it can interact with certain medicines.
~ Try Valerian tablets or tea to help sleep.
~ If you have recurrent urinary tract infections drink cranberry juice.
~ Avoid aspartame (sweetener).

Neck Pain
Neck pain that doesn’t go away after a day or so should be addressed. Any SUBLUXATIONS in the neck can causes a pain in the neck and/or a huge range of symptoms such as; headaches, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, blurred vision, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), arm pain or pins and needles, predispose you to colds, sinus problems and thyroid problems. Adjustments of the SUBLUXATION in the neck does not hurt (unless inflamed-discomfort only-rare). The ‘crack’ you hear is simply gas leaving the joint. It takes 20mins. for the gas to re-enter the joint. It is also EXTREMELY rare for complications to occur. Therefore being VERY safe!

Nose bleeds
First aid for nose bleeds is to tilt the head back slightly and pinch the fleshy part of the nose for 5-10 mins, and place ice on the back of the neck.

Osteoporosis
See Menopause section.
Home Tips
~ Avoid alcohol, caffeine, soft drinks (high in phosphorus), refined sugar, excess salt excess protein, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, capsicum. All these foods increase loss of calcium.
~ Also avoid laxatives, diuretics, smoking, some medicines (glucocorticosteroids and aluminium based antacids).
~ Exercise such as walking in the sun (for vit D) at least 30 mins a day. Weights are also fantastic.
~ Increase dairy and calcium rich soy.
~ Drink 2L of H2O daily.
~ Chew food it aids digestion.

PMS
PMS starts in adolescence and improves in your 20s. It then tends to return in your 30s and worsens until the actual cessation of your periods. It is vital to balance out the hormones, adjust any subluxations relating to the reproductive system and possibly detoxify the body. See the Chiropractor, as every case is different.

Posture
Correct body posture results in minimal strain to the muscles, ligaments, bones, joints and organs. It also dramatically reduces aches and pains! Causes include, most commonly SUBLUXATIONS, foot problems, weak muscles, poor eyesight, poor nutrition, pregnancy, a bad mattress, overweight, respiratory conditions, stress and being self-conscious.
Look at yourself in the mirror sideways; is your ear in line with the shoulder, hip and ankle? Keep you chin in (not down) and imagine you are being pulled towards the ceiling- think tall.
When sitting use the 90:90:90 rule. Ankles, knees and hips are 90 degrees, so are the elbows and shoulders. Do not stick your head forward at the computer.

Pregnancy and Birth
Pregnancy
Chiropractic is recommended throughout pregnancy every 3-6 weeks depending on your individual circumstances. A common complaint in the first trimester is morning sickness and heartburn or reflux. Mid back adjustments can alleviate or stop the symptoms altogether. Headaches and lower back problems can also be treated. You may find you have pins and needles in your hands; this is due to a SUBLUXATION in the neck, upper ribs or wrists. Exercise during pregnancy is encouraged especially walking 3-5 times per week. Nutrition is also discussed in detail for a fabulous and healthy mother and child.
Will Chiropractic harm my baby?
NO, different methods of treatment are employed as safety is by far the foremost important thing in any Chiropractic treatment.
Do I need to see a Chiropractor after the birth?
This is highly recommended. During the pregnancy a hormone called Relaxin ensures lots of movement in the pelvic area for the birth. Relaxin leaves the body 24-48hrs after the delivery. Therefore, pelvic distortions caused during the delivery will remain distorted causing SUBLUXATIONS and future problems. How many women do you know complain about their back pain starting after the birth of their first child.

Birth
The birth of a baby has special significance to a Chiropractor. Any SUBLUXATION caused by the birth can continue and causes a great range of symptoms such as allergies, colic, bedwetting, teething pain, headaches, developmental disorders…etc. A seemingly uneventful birth can cause a subluxation in the babies’ tiny spines. Squatting or kneeling have the best outcomes. Vacuum or forceps extraction can causes damage to the baby, especially with human error. The baby is usually already distressed so subluxations will commonly occur. Breeched neonates have greater incidence of hip dislocation, clubfoot, scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and lower neck trauma, usually a caesarian is favorable. Regular Chiropractic adjustments (using modified techniques!) can ensure an easier delivery by releasing and relaxing hip muscles, realigning the pelvis to create the greatest possible opening. This should also help prevent any breeched presentations. An instrument called the activator, which is extremely gentle, is used to remove subluxations. As your child grows, a doctor of Chiropractic can check every 2 months, or after any serious illness or traumatic event. 50% of head and neck injuries occur in the playground. Children typically love and respond well to Chiropractic, as they haven’t yet developed any long-term adult SUBLUXATIONS.

Puberty-delayed
A complete examination with the Chiropractor will ensure a healthy nervous system that supplies the reproductive system. Hormonal imbalances can be assessed and treated using APPLIED KINESIOLOGY. Other causes include Cushings Syndrome, Gastrointestinal malabsorption, pituitary tumour and hypothyroidism.

Restless Legs
This usual occurs in the elderly and is due to iron deficiency.
Home Tips
~Address any stress you may be going through.
~Stop smoking.
~Cut down on coffee or alcohol.
~Emerge your feet in cold water 5 mins before bed.

Sciatica
Sciatica is one-sided pain in the back of the legs. The nerve root, which exists the L4- L5, can be irritated or pinched at that level due to a SUBLUXATION or disc bulge, or further down in the buttock by the Piriformis muscle. CHIROPRACTORS are the best-qualified and most successful practitioners to treat sciatica. Depending on the severity and how long you have had the problem it may take a week to weeks to recover.

Shoulder Pain and Arm Pain
The Chiropractor will examine and diagnose the exact cause/s of the shoulder or arm pain. Often the cause is at a distant site to the pain; therefore it is useless and not cost effective to treat only the site of pain. I have a wealth of experience and success in treating the shoulder and arm.

Tinnitus
Otherwise known as ringing in the ears. This is quite difficult to treat. The removal of any upper neck subluxations is vital. It is also related to the kidneys which can be checked using APPLIED KINESILOGY. The liver and gallbladder must also be checked.
Home Tips
~ Cut down on alcohol, coffee, smoking and aspirin (unless used for medicinal purposes).
~ Try vit. B12.

Teens
Chiropractic for teens is essential for proper growth. According to a study 17% of teenagers have low back pain. This is due to a growth spurt (where the bones grow faster than the muscles and the muscles cramp), exercises and contact sports, poor flexibility and sedentary lifestyles (in front of the computer!) and smoking. American Journal of Epidemiology 2001 15(1)pp. 30-36. Advice will be given on posture and proper exercise. Diet is especially relevant due to the high incidence of obesity and type 2 diabetes now found in young adults and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

Weight Gain-some causes
~ Hypothyroidism, slows the metabolism.
~ Food allergies.
~ Medications such as the Pill, HRT, NSAIDS, antidepressants.
~ Kidney and heart disease.
~ Blood sugar imbalances.
~ Emotional eating.
~ Essential Fatty acid deficiency, are you craving fats?

All of the above can be assessed. It is important to pinpoint the cause of your weight gain.
